Street Art: The illadelph

Share on TwitterSubmit to StumbleUponShare via email

When we decided to relocate the core of JTwo to Philadelphia we knew we were moving to a city that truly embraces the artist culture – especially street art. For those of you unfamiliar with Street Art, you might want to open your eyes next time you walk outside (Note – must remove yourself from in front of the television and breathe air). Street Art can be defined as any art developed in public spaces — that is, “in the streets” — though the term usually refers to unsanctioned art, as opposed to government sponsored initiatives.

This isn’t your gang tags of old ladies  + gentlemen, this is a legitimate form of art that has been on the rise for years in cities across the world. This is some of the early sites in our first few weeks here.

The New JTwo

Share on TwitterSubmit to StumbleUponShare via email

You may have noticed that JTwo is sporting a new look these days. It’s true. JTwo has been reinvigorated by its recent success, so we figured it was time to update our image to reflect the electric attitude around the agency.

As the new JTwo look and feel brings an added digital presence, so too does the agency. We have increasingly been branching out from our deep-rooted film background and have developed into a full-fledged media juggernaut. JTwo has brought on board some impressive talent to help bolster its ever-growing webography and marketing departments. In the free-thinking spirit of JTwo, now more than ever, we are an eclectic group of individuals coming together with increased collaboration to deliver on our clients’ wildest desires.

Increased collaboration is a large portion of what the new JTwo brings to the table. Within this new structure, we can now bring a larger pool of expertise into the conversation to properly identify and solve your individual needs. In fact, you may have noticed all of the (+) symbols appearing throughout our communications. This symbol stands for our “seal of approval”, ensuring that all appropriate departments of the agency have collaborated directly or indirectly with our clients to deliver the final product.

The New JTwoFilms.com

Our company’s website has gone through a few different phases in its young life to date.  We will be the first to admit that the first edition was simply terrible. We loved the second edition like it was our first born child (if only it wasn’t the second?) and it broke our hearts for our favorite tech company in the world, Apple, to say Sayonara Flash…hello HTML5. So we tore apart our flash based “Jtwo City” and swallowed the red pill as we leapt head first down the rabbit hole en route to building this grand work of art you are currently visiting! When we sat down to completely redesign Jtwofilms.com we decided it was time to radically redesign and redefine who Jtwo Films is at the core. We were no longer just a film company – we were a creative media juggernaut!  So we dropped the films (though we kept it in the url so our loyal subjects could find us) and we re-emerged from the ashes as a departmentalized, world altering, media producing force to be reckoned with!

As for the new site we built….well….we were pretty thrilled with that too! We took our design inspiration from everyone’s favorite decade…the retro/neon spandex wearing/Optimus Prime Ruling 1980’s – We mashed it together with our customary Jtwo flare along with our favorite lime green Nike throwback kicks and BOOM!!!! Welcome to the new JtwoFilms.com

I Write for the Same Reason I Breathe by Bridget Belfield

Share on TwitterSubmit to StumbleUponShare via email

Inspiration can be defined as the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something. But what really inspires us? What makes us mentally stimulated to do or feel something? I have found that while the definition of inspiration can be universal, that moment of inspiration, when you breathe in that exhilarating spirit of something that is truly great, that moment varies for each individual.

As an aspiring writer, my inspiration comes and goes in waning tides as an idea surfaces or retreats. The really good ideas propel me to scramble for the nearest pen and scribble down disjointed thoughts on any surface within reach. Those are the ideas you live for as a writer, the ideas that you can’t get out fast enough. The ideas that take hold of you and consume your every fiber until you release them into the light and let them take shape.

But regardless of my success or future as a writer, inspiration can be seen every day in this world. You just have to know where to look.

Imagine one woman passing the same homeless shelter during her daily runs, and realizing that her love for running could be shared with these individuals in order to inspire change. Imagine a company, first known for giving shoes to third world countries, deciding that they will no longer be solely a shoe company, nor a eye wear company, but a One for One company in order to reach more people in need. Imagine a university of over 40,000 students banning together to stay awake for 46 hours in order to raise over 9 million dollars for pediatric cancer and children who never really had a chance to be children.

Imagine the world we could live in if we continually followed our inspiration and dared to be (or do) something  bigger than just ourselves. Yes, we all have our own goals, our own aspirations and dreams in life. But it’s when we begin to put the dreams and lives of others in front of our own that we are truly inspiring others. For as a wise Aristotle once said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” In a world where we are continually taking and consuming, it is of vital importance that we find ways to give back, ways to think bigger, ways to inspire.

Lost in the Moment

Share on TwitterSubmit to StumbleUponShare via email

A daily part of my photography is to focus on figuring out how to communicate with the person standing two feet in front of my camera so that a part of their personality shines in every image. For a lot of people, staring down the barrel of the lens when it is so close is very intimidating.

Whether I’m shooting weddings or doing portraits, my goal is to not only give my client an outstanding image, but to find something in them or realize something about themselves that they did not even know was there. It could be finding an angle of their face that works perfectly or capturing an interesting expression that appeared only for a split second, these are the images that get me through the day. I love trying to make my clients laugh by being goofy and making stupid jokes. I humiliate myself because it sometimes makes my client feel more comfortable in front of the camera. Sometimes my actions spark a smile, and that is when I pounce.

During weddings I have a tendency to make myself unseen because the less people know I’m there the less likely they have a chance to pose. I cannot stand the cookie-cutter poses you see constantly; those are not real to me. Most people do not sit with there head tilted to the left slightly and there fist under their chin, I try not to pose my clients, I give them a general position and let their personality take over. This makes for more natural poses that correspond to who my client is as an individual.

Over the years I have found that everyone knows exactly what he or she does not like about himself or herself and to me it is generally some mundane and some miniscule feature that is unsupported, but what people do not realize is that these features are what make a person unique; and that is what I’m there to capture.

JTwo Co-Sponsors Golf Tournament

Share on TwitterSubmit to StumbleUponShare via email

We may not be Tiger Woods (but then again, that might be a good thing at the moment) but we love golf here at JTwo! Even more importantly though, we love helping out a good cause. Especially one so near and dear to our hearts. That is why we volunteered to sponsor hole #14 at the recent Backyard Bash Annual Golf Tournament with the proceeds benefitting the Aaron Klinger Memorial Scholarship Fund at Milton Area Sr High School.

It has been one of our goals to keep Aaron’s memory alive via the scholarship fund. He was our friend and the driving force behind our award-winning documentary, For Aaron. The proceeds from our documentary also benefit the fund! For more info about the project visit the official For Aaron site HERE

The Golf Tournament was a true success with 100+ participants and we were proud to be in the presence of other esteemed sponsors such as the United States Golf Association, CDI International, and more.

Rebel with a Cause…?

Share on TwitterSubmit to StumbleUponShare via email

Just as we had begun to tire from patting ourselves on the back here at JTwo for coming up with the brilliant idea to start the JTwo Lab Blog….we realized we had one slight problem—what do we write about?

Well…one genius idea begat another and we decided one of the things we love most here at JTwo is meeting people as odd and interesting (we like to think at least) as we are—so we decided that I would be tasked with venturing out into the world and seeking out artists, filmmakers, musicians, writers, poets, architects, wizards, and people just simply too cool to go unnoticed and I would interview them to get to the bottom of why they chose to pursue their passion.

However, there was one catch, I realized early on that if I am going to be put other artists on the hot seat and expect them to answer my questions—then I guess it was only fair that I am able to answer them as well.

That is when I decided to write a blog post about why I became a filmmaker. I honestly didn’t know where to begin. I sat here and stared at that demon of a blinking cursor for quite some time only to be left with one answer—I really have never thought about it before. After sitting there a bit longer I decided the answers weren’t going to just fly out without some sort of coaxing. That is when I decided to go a somewhat odd, if not unconventional route – I would interview myself to get to solve this little enigma. I mean whom better to ask me questions about my life story (Oprah and Ellen were unavailable)…..right?

This is Part I of the torment:

Q: When did you realize that you wanted to be a filmmaker?

A:  After all that you started out with the big bang? I mean come on…you don’t just jump right in the shark infested waters without hiding ground beef in your swimming partner’s wetsuit first.

Q: That makes no sense….and why are you in your swimming partner’s wetsuit?

A: She was beautiful and it makes perfect sense.

Q: Answer the question please.

A: To be honest, I can’t really tell you how I chose to be a filmmaker. In my eyes, I just always have been….well not always. My parent’s didn’t trust me with a camera until 8th grade….come to think of it, they still don’t.

Q: What was your first film?

A: I wouldn’t exactly call it a film, but I “borrowed” my Dad’s family camcorder and filmed a series of static shots of my Chicago Bulls memorabilia while the Space Jam soundtrack played in the background.

Q: Space Jam huh…what song?

A: “Basketball Jones” or “I Believe I can Fly”….no R Kelly jokes please.

Q: I wouldn’t go there.

A: Thank you.

Q: Anyway…..after that riveting first go at filmmaking – what happened next?

A: Well, my two friends and I always loved the old And One Mix Tapes that you used to get for free from Finish Line when you bought a pair of kicks. So we decided to make our own version called. “And What?” I have to tell you that I hope that two-disc DVD set never gets out.

Q: Two disc set huh?

A: Complete with free posabel action figure.

Q: Right.

A: Yea, but we made those videos for years…. Every summer we would crank out 9 or 10. As we went along they got more elaborate, not necessarily better, but more elaborate. That is essentially how I learned how to shoot, edit, and put together a story. Then we moved on to school projects making videos for English and History Class.

Q: Best video you made?

A: Our own version of John Milton’s Paradise Lost.

Q: Impressive

A: I’d like to think so – we made angel wings out of hockey sticks.

Q: I retract my statement.

A: Good… I don’t take compliments very well anyway.

Q: What is your favorite part about Directing?

A: Other than the fact that I enjoy being the boss….I truly enjoy taking an idea….the smallest of ideas…and transforming it and molding it into a piece of art. I like the escape it offers for me as well as an outlet for my creativity – when I was a kid I was always creating things out of duct tape and cardboard… Whether it was the batmobile or a fort I would build these little worlds where I could play in for the day—to a certain extent I am still building those little worlds—I just have more expensive duct tape.

Q: Interesting.

A: I’d like to think so.

Q: Favorite film of all time?

A: For Aaron: The Documentary

Q: Favorite film not starring you?

A: Into the Wild, but it would have been even better if I was starring in it.

Q: Why is that?

A: I would have packed extra rice.
